Oregon State sweeps Pac-12 Player of the Week Awards from opening week

Oregon State’s Pivec and Jones win weekly conference honors

Top ten team Oregon State saw stellar performances across the board during the first week of regular season play. The Beavers advanced to the second round of the preseason WNIT after taking down UC Irvine, 86-57, Saturday night. It was a significant win as UCI is No. 1 in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll and No. 2 in the Big West Preseason Media Poll. This week’s winners of the Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week finished the game with double digits.

The Player of the Week, senior guard Mikayla Pivec, narrowly missed a triple-double, with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. The Freshman of the Week, forward Taylor Jones, earned a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds on 8-for-11 shooting (.727). Her performance tied for the third-highest total by a freshman in their debut in program history.

Oregon State will host Pacific on Monday at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET. The game will be live-streamed on Pac-12.com.

Oregon was not included in the voting as the Ducks do not open the regular season until tonight against Northeastern. Their win over Team USA on Saturday was in an exhibition contest.
