Phoenix Mercury’s Diana Taurasi suspended one game

This WNBA released the following statement today:

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi has been suspended one game without pay for receiving her seventh technical foul of the 2018 season, it was announced today by Bethany Donaphin, Head of WNBA League Operations.

Under WNBA rules, a player or coach is automatically suspended without pay for one game upon receiving a seventh technical foul during the regular season.  For every two additional technical fouls received during that regular season, the player or coach will be automatically suspended for an additional game.

Taurasi incurred her seventh technical foul with 5:54 left in the second quarter during Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.

She will serve the suspension on July 25 when the Mercury host the Chicago Sky.

In her fourteenth season in the league, Taurasi is the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer and became the first player in WNBA history to reach 8,000 career points on June 5 in New York. She will also participate in this week’s All-Star game. She has been voted a WNBA All-Star in all nine of the All-Star games in which she was eligible.
