Team Wilson set a WNBA All-Star record for points scored in a 134-112 win over Team Stewart in this season’s event. Led by the game’s MVP, Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces), Team Wilson survived a comeback attempt by Team Stewart in the third quarter.

Plum, who finished with 30 points, tied the record for most points in a single WNBA All-Star Game. The Aces guard matched former Minnesota Lynx player Maya Moore (30 points, 2015). Plum also set the record for most field goals made in a single All-Star Game (12), passing Shoni Schimmel (2014) and Nneka Ogwumike (2017).

Las Vegas center A’ja Wilson captained Plum’s team while Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart led the opposition.

Seven players on Team Wilson finished in double figures, and retiring center Sylvia Fowles got the crowd excited with a dunk in the second quarter.

Five players on Team Stewart landed in double digits, led by Connecticut Sun center Jonquel Jones who scored 29 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, and dished out five assists.

The game had several novel rules, including 4-point shot circles about 22 feet from the center of the rim, a 20-second shot clock, and no free throws except for the game’s last two minutes.

Ionescu and Quigley Win on Saturday

New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley won the special event competitions on Saturday at McCormick Place.

Ionescu was paired with Nike EYBL athlete Zoe Brooks (committed to NC State), and the duo won the Skills Challenge. Quigley became a four-time winner of the 3-point All-Star Contest. She is the first pro player, female or male, to win over three 3-point contests.

“It’s definitely pretty cool to be in the history books with so many great shooters, like Larry Bird,” Quigley said. “It just feels great to have that confidence from my coach, my teammates, and everybody in Chicago.”
